Heyfield sits on the banks of the magnificent Thomson River and is the gateway to the Alpine National Park and the Victorian High Country. It is home to Australian Sustainable Hardwoods Pty Ltd, the largest timber mill in the Southern Hemisphere. Heyfield has much to experience and is in the perfect position to allow visitors maximum access and enjoyment to all Heyfield and the surrounding areas have to offer.
An early settler first described the area as 'a field of waving corn', which is how Heyfield got its name. Historically, the town was a popular stopping point for diggers on their way to the Gippsland goldfields.
The Heyfield Wetlands is a paradise for bird watchers, with over 4km of trails and boardwalks to enjoy. The town is also home to some cosy cafes and a classic country pub.
