Licola is the only privately owned town in the state, purchased entirely by the Lions Club of Victoria. The remote town currently has a population of 29 and to this day generates its own power and pumps and treats its own water.
Surrounding farmland supports predominantly beef cattle and sheep is owned and is run by families, many of which have descended from the early settlers and have lived and loved the area for generations.
The town has just one shop, the general store, where you are buy fuel, groceries and other essentials. Licola is commonly used as the starting for exploration to some of Gippsland's most spectacular High Country.
If you're a lover of the great outdoors, Licola is a dream come true with excellent fishing, rafting, kayaking and canoeing opportunities along the Macalister and Caledonia Rivers. The Macalister Gorge Scenic Reseve is naturally stunning, with fantastic camping spots to truly enjoy this pristine environment.
